ALIVE: With Flying Colors

Life is a concept as multifaceted as art and just as impossible to define. Grey ‘Look Ford’ Dylan’s series of vibrantly colored paintings all basked in a supernatural light draw us into an altered universe. Exploring subjects as broad as artificial intelligence, evolution, reproduction, spirituality, sexuality, decay, and even an immortal ideal, she rearranges our notions of what it means to be alive. Much of the work is heavily research-based, investigating animal behaviors and scientific phenomena that occur in different environments around the world.

Some examples of this that you can see throughout the work include adaptive radiation that occurs from whale falls, bees working together in a hive mind, axolotls’ rapid regeneration and cancer immunity, cannabis’ ability to kill cancer cells, and chemical equilibrium that happens at death.

As well as researching different ecologies, Dylan delves into some of her own experiences that have played a role in her life, from childhood to growing up into a young trans woman. Much like the futurists she creates movement within her compositions by endless line and patterning. Look Ford combines the speed of graffiti with the sophistication of gallery art by spray painting and using acrylic on canvas

Artist’s Note

ALIVE : With Flying Colors is a continuation of my 2022 show titled “ALIVE”. Packed with twice as much art and a deeper understanding of life, I am very proud and ecstatic to show the finale of ALIVE at Metro Gallery in November 2025, a series which has taken me four years to complete.
